french teenagers like to curse a lot

i had a successful lesson (errr… activity, rather) with my two classes today that normally don’t participate a lot. for valentine’s day, i decided to make them create a soap opera scene, but they have to use one of the props i gave them (candles, my unicorn pillow pet, and my chest x-ray). they’re going to present their scenes next week but i heard a lot of cursing (in english), mostly the f bomb. i had to stop them in the middle of class and i tried to explain to them that curse words are taken more seriously in schools in the us (aka even if bitch was said… trouble). i mean, i’ve heard them say putain and stuff like that all the time and some teachers barely react.

but of course, everybody always wants to learn the curse words in a foreign language. and hey, i didn’t teach them these words. they picked them up from songs or tv shows or somewhere else.

at least i got a successful activity out of it. i’m really interested to see how the groups are going to use my unicorn pillow pet and x-ray in their soap opera scene…
